Everything had gone Hitler's way.
Nazi propaganda convinced the average German that this was a defensive war brought on by Polish aggression. With blitzkrieg coming from the west and the Soviet Union invading from the east, Poland's defenses fell apart quickly.
Illusions of the Allies rushing in to their aid were dashed as it became apparent that Britain and France were in no position to do anything more than talk. The swiftness with which victory came meant a minimum of casualties, which pleased German citizens and soldiers alike.
All Hitler had to do now was to convince the Allies to back off.
