ETO - UK: Day 37 of 258 of the Blitz. Many of the children that had been evacuated at the outbreak of war had prematurely been returned by the time the Blitz began on 06 Sep 40. Efforts are now being stepped up to get them out again.

Operation PIED PIPER, which began on 01 Sep 39, officially relocated more than 3.5 million people. Further waves of official evacuation and re-evacuation occurred from the South and East coast in June 1940, when a seaborne invasion was expected, and from affected cities after the Blitz began in Sept 1940. There were also official evacuations from the UK to other parts of the British Empire, and many non-official evacuations within and from the UK.
Goods as well as people were evacuated. Art treasures were sent to distant storage, the Bank of England moved out of London and 2,154 tons of gold were shipped to the vaults of the Bank of Canada.

Atlantic: U-101 torpedoes and sinks the merchant ship SAINT MALO south of Iceland. The ship was a former French vessel requisitioned by the Canadian government. 28 are killed.
